1 in 3 Americans aren't getting enough sleep. HIT! CBD Oil into your pre-sleep routine can help

Stress and anxiety brought on by pressures from work, relationships and family are keeping us up at night. COVID-19 induced stress is making things worse. Coronasomnia is real.

Insomnia is defined as being unable to go to sleep easily or be asleep for a significant amount of time. We live in a 24 hr culture that is built to keep us awake and engaged so it's critical that we find time to disconnect, especially as we are getting ready to go to bed. Our Hit! Balm founder Lawrence Miller L.Ac. explains how CBD can become your perfect partner in slumber by integrating Hit! Moon Drops CBD oil  into your pre-sleep routine.

In recent years, the use of CBD for the treatment of a variety of conditions has risen significantly. Specifically, CBD & CBN like that found in Hit! Moon Drops has been found to have potential health benefits for symptoms like insomnia. Here’s a little background on what CBD is and how it impacts your sleep and body.

While CBD may be new to the general consumer, researchers have been exploring the benefits of this powerful cannabinoid for many years. In addition to its use in addressing certain pain patterns and generalized stress, products containing CBD like Hit! Moon Drops have been found to have potent effects in treating insomnia and the anxiety that can both contribute to it and result from it.

What Are Cannabinoids and CBD?

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that are found in the hemp plant that bind to receptors in the central nervous system and can have varied effects on the body. This system is referred to as the Endocannabinoid System. The most well-known and researched cannabinoids include cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the cannabinoid that leads to the “high” from cannabis use, but is found in very small amounts in the hemp plant; CBD is found in much higher amounts in hemp and is the source for all of Hit! Drops CBD concentrate.

CBD differs from THC in that it does not cause psychoactive effects or a “high.” Because it does not cause these psychoactive effects and has been found to benefit certain conditions including pain, anxiety, and insomnia, CBD is gaining acceptance as a possible treatment for several conditions.

The Endocannabinoid System and Sleep

Researchers discovered that the endocannabinoid system plays a role in maintaining certain body functions, such as mood, appetite, sleep, and regulating circadian rhythms. Research indicates that the CBD may interact with specific receptors in the brain, potentially affecting the sleep/wake cycle. Additionally, because CBD has also been found to decrease anxiety and pain (which can both interfere with restful sleep), by reducing these symptoms, it’s been seen that sleep can improve on this basis as well.

Current Research studies on CBD and Sleep

Although more studies need to be performed, current research supports the theory that CBD and cannabinoids may improve sleep. A study published in the journal, Medicines, involved 409 people with insomnia. Participants rated their symptoms of insomnia on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most severe. Starting symptoms were rated 6.6 on average. After using, participants rated symptoms on average to be 2.2, which was a decrease of 4.5.

In a 2019 study published in the Permanente Journal, researchers looked at 72 adults with anxiety and poor sleep who were recruited to test the benefits of CBD. The participants completed anxiety and sleep assessments at the start of the study and at the first-month follow up. Study participants were given 25 mg of CBD in capsule form; those who predominantly had sleep complaints took the dose in the evening, while participants that had anxiety as their predominant complaint took CBD in the morning. After the first month of treatment, anxiety scores decreased in 79% of test subjects, and sleep scores improved in 66% of the participants, which indicated less trouble sleeping.

Conclusions

While more research needs to be done, the use of CBD can potentially decrease your symptoms of insomnia and help provide a longer amount of quality sleep.  If you struggle with sleep issues, the best first step is to consult your doctor and learn more about causes and treatments. Once that you’ve determined that CBD is right for you, choose Hit! Drops as your partner in slumber. Providing the highest quality organic CBD-rich hemp extract along with a delicious taste, Hit!
